My husband, Steven E. Counsell, drew this elegant piece for my Valentine Day Card. It is now my forever Valentine.
The loon, an elegant black and white fowl almost heraldic and here treated so. Egypt is in all forms if seen in their mythic purity.

symmetry balances lightning and recall
we live in a decorated world like say —
two loons that are balanced like a broach.
Neoclassical, as entwined Palladian symbols,
they are wild and yet they are caught,
like flies in amber or a mastodon in ice.
But twinning is their final birth, like ours.”
